The baby has been moving like crazy all day long! I haven’t felt every single movement, but I can hear all movement on the monitor. It’s really neat. The perinatologist again said that on the monitor, the baby looks great. So all the other issues are that much more perplexing.
They gave me a quick ultrasound to check the bladder and kidneys. The ultrasound tech said she wasn’t convinced about the bladder because she couldn’t see the arteries on one side of it, but the perinatologist says he is convinced it is there. The tech did say she wasn’t saying the arteries weren’t there, she was just having trouble saying absolutely for sure due to the lack of fluid. However, both did agree on the kidneys being present.
The doctor said it would be nice if amniotic fluid was leaking and we didn’t know it, because then we’d know there isn’t anything wrong with the baby that is resulting in the lack of fluid production. I’ve been checked twice (once 6 weeks ago and again on Friday), but the tests that were done to check aren’t always accurate – they are more of a snapshot in time if I understand correctly.
Finally, the perinatologist suggested the possibility of an abdominal cvs. We had declined cvs before – I felt the risk to the baby was too great. At this point, there is no miscarriage risk, but it could still cause contractions. However, the perinatologist did not feel the risk would be very high at all. The abdominal cvs involves a needle going in through the stomach and pulling out a piece of the placenta. It sounds really painful to me, but they say it isn’t all that bad. The thing that concerns me most is this type of cvs has rarely been done by the doctors here – my doctor hasn’t done a single one. A cvs is usually done in the first trimester and it’s usually not done abdominally.
The nice thing about the cvs is it would solve the mystery of whether there is a chromosomal abnormality. If it comes back clear, we’d have one less thing to worry about. But right now, I haven’t really been worried about chromosomal issues, so to me the information falls into the “nice to know” category as opposed to the “absolutely must know” category. The perinatologist most experienced in the cvs procedure is on call on Wed., so he is supposed to talk to me some more about it.

I have had three natural births and the twins were c-section. The c-section is the lazy way to have a baby. You just go to sleep and wake up and it is over. Alot of movie-stars and rich have their babies on a schedule with the c-section. It is by far easier than a natural birth, but you will need someone to help afterward. I got my strength back much quicker than the natural births. My Mother came out and cooked and helped me for a week or ten days. My husband was not a good cook. He could only make eggs and peanut butter sandwiches. We will keep you in our prayers and if I can be of any help to you and Nathan just ask. God Bless Linda T
